Fabric Twine

I started gathering all my fabric scraps and cutting them in to strips for this project, where you make your own rope/twine. I think this idea is really cool, particularly because it helps me make use of things instead of turning them into waste. I can later use this fabric twine for new art projects, like rug or basket making, but my first idea is to use my fabric twine like I would use yarn, to make a scarf. 

Making the fabric twine is going to take awhile and be an ongoing process, but I like that it's a mindless activity I can do while I zone out or listen to music or meditate. It reminds me of Native Americans with their handcrafts. I often wonder if my compulsion to create has anything to do with the Native American in me, or if this was something they only did out of necessity.
